Identification:
- Simple leaf, 3-7 narrow lobes; bristle tips, bell-shaped base; dark and glossy above, lighter gray-green below, pubescent
- Leaves appear to droop
- Small; round acorns, 1/2inches in diameter

Notes: An upland oak, widely distributed in the Southeastern United States. Very tolerant of the urban environment and long-lived, large specimens of the Southern Red Oak are found scattered across campus. Although not widely available in the nursery trade, the variety pagodifolia, the Cherrybark Oak, is common. |
