Identification:
- Needle leaf 8-12” long, 3 and 2 needles per fascicle, evergreen
- Bark forms large scaly plates that flake off exposing orange inner bark
- Purple pollen cones in early spring
- Shiny brown cone, oval with sharp spine on the scale
- Strong central trunk with horizontal branches

Notes: The Slash Pine is a common pine in the forest of the southeast United States and harvested for the lumber industry. In the landscape it is adaptable to most soil conditions and has fast rate of growth. The fine-textured needles provide excellent filtered light creating an outstanding environment for azalea and other shade loving species. |
