Identification:
- Dense, clump forming grass
- Long tapering blades, length and width varies greatly among cultivars
- Brush-like foxtail flowers on slender stalks in late summer, emerge silvery-white and dry to a light tan

| Notes: Pennisetum alopecuroides is a perennial Fountain Grass and forms dense clumps of foliage with foxtail inflorescence in the late summer through fall. The selection 'Hamlin' has bright green foliage and silvery-white flowers. 'Mourdy', also known as Black Fountain Grass, has deep maroon flowers that appear black. Although showy, Pennisetum alopecuroides is sensitive to root rot and will decline in wet years. 'Mourdy' has also proved to be a prolific seeder and ample volunteer seedlings can be found in the spring. |
