Identification:
- Upright form with narrow canopy
- Bipinnately-compound leaf; 3-4 ft long with slender spines
- Large panicles of white flowers in summer
- Purple fruit in autumn
- Sharp thorns on stem and clustered at nodes

Notes: Normally associated with woodland edges or partially cleared sites, if not disturbed Devil’s Walkingstick suckers and forms dense thickets. It is easily recognized with numerous thorns on the stem, showy flowers and fruit. Although interesting, this species is generally not well-suited for managed landscapes. Works best in naturalistic settings. Fruit attracts many bird species. |
